    Position:

Assistant Golf Course Superintendent/ Assistant Athletic Field Manager

    Job Description:

The Naval Academy Golf Club is looking for an assistant golf course superintendent to work on the golf course grounds, along with spending up to 50% of their time working on the Naval Academy Athletic Association football practice fields and varsity soccer field.  The position would report to the golf course superintendent, who is responsible for golf course as well as the sports fields.

    Requirements:

Applicants must be a current assistant golf course superintendent or sports turf assistant manager with at least 3 years of experience, preferably in the Mid-Atlantic.  They should understand hand watering, mowing, bunker maintenance, fertilizer application, pesticide application, and irrigation repair.  Those skills are needed for the golf course as well as the sports fields.  Must have or be able to obtain a Maryland pesticide license within 90 days of employment.

    The Course:

The golf course is a 1945 William Flynn design, which is the last course done by the acclaimed architect.  It is the home of the Naval Academy Men’s and Women’s golf teams.  The club is undergoing a major renovation scheduled to begin in August 2019.  The greens will be rebuilt to USGA sand-based specifications with new bent grass.  The bunkers will also be rebuilt to reflect the design when they were built in 1945.  This is a historic overhaul of the course since there has never been a full-scale renovation.  Currently, a new two-wire irrigation system is being installed on the tees and fairways.  This is a great opportunity to be a part of something historic at the club.

    The Fields:

The football practice fields are Patriot Bermudagrass on native soil.  These fields are the practice fields for the Division I Naval Academy Football Team.  The condition of these fields needs to be elevated to the standards of the Naval Academy Athletic Association and provide a premier practice surface for the highly competitive football team.  The Glenn Warner Soccer Complex is the home of Navy Men’s and Women’s soccer.  This is also a Patriot Bermudagrass sand-based field.  It is consistently one of the best soccer fields in the Patriot League Conference.  Both fields have block irrigation systems.

    Benefits:

Health, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, 403B retirement, Uniforms, local and national dues, and continuing education opportunities.

    Salary:

    $45,000 - $50,000

    Application Instructions:
