Tournament History
The Stewards of the Chesapeake event was established in 2000 by the MAAGCS to develop a primary source of funding to support local research projects, support environmental efforts, and government relations as they pertain to the golf industry. The tournament has also provided a great opportunity for MAAGCS members to invite their club or company officials to participate in the event for the preservation and improvement of both the game of golf and our environment. The tournament has raised over $250,000 since its inception. Proceeds will benefit initiatives like oyster restoration, MAGI advocacy, turfgrass research, scholarships, and turf education.
We’re excited to roll out updated sponsorship levels for this year’s event, including a brand-new Stewards Sponsorship level to support our ongoing environmental and educational efforts across the Chesapeake Bay region.
Woodmont Country Club
Experience championship golf on the newly renovated South Course at Woodmont Country Club. Originally developed from the Club’s historic “Iron Duke” par-3 layout, the South Course has evolved into a premier 18-hole design known for its playability and distinctive character. A comprehensive renovation completed in 2023 by noted architect Joel Weiman has elevated the course to new heights, featuring expansive fairways, strategic bunkering, and multiple teeing options that offer a dynamic experience for players of all levels.
The updated layout showcases unique design elements rarely seen in the U.S., blending classic aesthetics with modern functionality. With exceptional conditioning and a thoughtfully crafted routing, the South Course provides both challenge and enjoyment in equal measure.
In recognition of its quality and accessibility, the South Course has been selected to host the 4th and 5th U.S. Adaptive Opens in 2025 and 2026.

Format
Four Person Team Shamble Using 80% handicap – gross & net prizes. All players will tee off, and the best drive will be selected. Each player will play their second stroke from that spot (within one club length, not nearer the hole, you may improve the lie of the selected drive and place the other three remaining balls. You cannot move from rough to fairway or out of a hazard/bunker). Each player will play their own ball down from the selected spot until it is holed. The two low net scores on each hole will count for the team score.
Note: Par 3s – everyone will play their own ball until it is holed out. The two low net scores will count | Par 5s – select the best drive, select the best second shot (same rules apply for placing, 1st and 2nd shots on par 5’s), everyone will play their own ball from shot 3 until it is holed out
