Tournament History
The Stewards of the Chesapeake event was established in 2000 by the MAAGCS to develop a primary source of funding to support local research projects, support environmental efforts, and government relations as they pertain to the golf industry. The tournament has also provided a great opportunity for MAAGCS members to invite their club or company officials to participate in the event for the preservation and improvement of both the game of golf and our environment. The tournament has raised over $250,000 since its inception. Proceeds will benefit initiatives like oyster restoration, MAGI advocacy, turfgrass research, scholarships, and turf education.
Benefitting

Funds raised this year will directly support the Chesapeake Bay Trust, a leading regional nonprofit that invests in community-based restoration, education, and engagement projects to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay and its local waterways. Through grants and partnerships, the Trust supports initiatives such as oyster and habitat restoration, water quality improvement, environmental education, and community conservation efforts.
Green Spring Valley Hunt Club
Green Spring Valley Hunt Club is one of Maryland’s most historic and distinguished private clubs, set in the rolling countryside just north of Baltimore. With roots dating back more than a century, the club reflects a deep tradition of sporting excellence, conservation, and community.
The golf course is a classic parkland layout that blends seamlessly into the natural landscape. Framed by mature trees and gentle elevation changes, it rewards thoughtful shot-making and course management rather than sheer power. Its understated elegance and timeless design create a memorable experience for players of all skill levels.
Originally founded as a foxhunting club, Green Spring Valley Hunt Club has long been a gathering place for stewards of the land. That legacy makes it an ideal setting for Stewards of the Chesapeake, where appreciation for the environment, fellowship, and the preservation of our natural resources come together.

Format
Four Person Team Shamble Using 80% handicap – gross & net prizes. All players will tee off, and the best drive will be selected. Each player will play their second stroke from that spot (within one club length, not nearer the hole, you may improve the lie of the selected drive and place the other three remaining balls. You cannot move from rough to fairway or out of a hazard/bunker). Each player will play their own ball down from the selected spot until it is holed. The two low net scores on each hole will count for the team score. If you do not have a verifiable GHIN handicap, you will be required to play as a 0 handicap for the event.
Note: Par 3s – everyone will play their own ball until it is holed out. The two low net scores will count | Par 5s – select the best drive, select the best second shot (same rules apply for placing, 1st and 2nd shots on par 5’s), everyone will play their own ball from shot 3 until it is holed out
