Job Announcement: Superintendent, Northwest Golf Course
MCRA has an opportunity to join a dynamic team with an excellent benefits package!
Northwest Golf Course has an immediate opening for the golf course superintendent position. The course is in great shape and just hosted a successful U.S. Open Qualifying Round. Northwest is an Audubon International Certified Cooperative Sanctuary and is the highest revenue facility in our system. This 27-hole facility was constructed in 1964 when the course length was well ahead of its time as a 7,400-yard championship golf course. The course features bent/poa pushup greens, ryegrass fairways, and hybrid bermudagrass tees. It has a fully lit and heated driving range. Additional course information here: https://www.mcggolf.com/courses/northwest.
The superintendent at Northwest will work daily with 2 very knowledgeable, bilingual assistants and a highly tenured equipment manager; these 3 talented individuals “ran the show” last summer for 3 months and did a fantastic job. This position will be expected to orchestrate daily tasks as well as look ahead at long-term goals for the property. The predominantly Latino crew has been working together for years and is cross-trained to perform most tasks. It is a team-oriented, fast-paced environment where we thrive on working hard and having fun in line with our Core Values: Genuine Smile, Deliver Excellence, Do-Anything Attitude. The goal for us is to plan well and execute tasks efficiently to help maintain work-life balance, with 2 days off per week for full-time staff.
Northwest is a part of the award-winning MCG system, a division of MCRA. We are fairly unique in the U.S. golf industry, with our 9 facilities situated close to each other to share resources and equipment during projects, aeration, etc., between our properties. Our team of superintendents communicates often and works together as needed to support each other. Additional support to the team is provided by our Director of Agronomy, our Agronomy Support Manager, and our Facilities & Equipment Supervisor. Our goal is to provide great golf course conditions that offer real value for our customers and break down the stereotype of “muni” golf.
The selected individual should have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a key decision-maker in the management of fine turfgrass. Experience in the Mid-Atlantic region is highly preferable.
