Position Overview
The Turf Department at Green Spring Valley Hunt Club is seeking a passionate, career-driven, self-motivated, and detail-oriented turf professional who takes pride in delivering a championship-caliber golf course experience for members and guests.
The Assistant-in-Training will work closely with the Superintendent and management team on daily operations, long-term planning, and special projects. Responsibilities may include agronomic programs, course preparation for major events (including the Member-Guest), and hands-on leadership within the operation.
This position is ideal for an individual looking to grow their career in turfgrass management while gaining valuable, real-world experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Course set-up and daily preparation
- Precise application of plant protectants and fertilizers
- Accurate inventory tracking of products
- Assistance with EOP ordering
- Detailed record keeping
- Moisture management
- Equipment operation
- Irrigation operation and repair
- Small crew leadership
- Problem-solving and providing solutions to operational challenges
Position Details
- Status: Full-Time
- Schedule: 40–50 hours per week
- Overtime & Weekends: Required; every other weekend from April through October
Education Requirements
- High school diploma
- Aspires to earn a certificate or degree in Turfgrass Management
Experience Requirements
- 1–3 years of experience in the turfgrass maintenance industry
Special Requirements
- Self-motivated and a team player
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required
Must obtain:
- Maryland Fertilizer Applicator License within 90 days of start date
- Maryland Pest Applicator License within 90 days after completing the first year of employment

Compensation
