    Position Summary

    The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent in planning, directing, and supervising daily golf course maintenance operations. This position provides hands-on experience in agronomic programs, irrigation management, team leadership, tournament preparation, and golf course improvement projects while helping maintain exceptional playing conditions for our membership.

    The ideal candidate is a motivated and career-oriented turf professional eager to develop leadership and staff management skills, learn all facets of golf course operations, and prepare for advancement to a Golf Course Superintendent position.  The club is currently completing the final phase of a new irrigation system and is working towards completing a full bunker renovation by the end of 2027. 

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Assist with daily golf course maintenance and course setup.
    • Supervise, train, and develop maintenance staff.
    • Schedule work assignments and monitor productivity.
    • Assist with operation, programming, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation system.
    • Monitor soil moisture and assist with irrigation scheduling and water management.
    • Apply fertilizers and plant protectants in compliance with all regulations.
    • Scout for turfgrass diseases, weeds, and insects and recommend corrective action.
    • Assist with aerification, topdressing, overseeding, and other cultural practices.
    • Help prepare the course for tournaments and special events.
    • Promote a safe work environment and ensure compliance with Club policies and OSHA standards.
    • Participate in golf course improvement projects and other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    • Associate's or Bachelor's degree, certificate, or equivalent education in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field preferred.
    • One to three years of golf course maintenance experience, preferably in an irrigation technician, spray technician, or supervisory role.
    • Possession of, or ability to obtain within 90 days, a Maryland Pesticide Applicator License.
    • Knowledge of cool-season turfgrass management practices.
    • Experience with irrigation systems and water management strategies.
    • Familiarity with fertilizer and pesticide application programs.
    • Ability to identify turfgrass diseases, insects, weeds, and ornamental pests.
    • Understanding of the game of golf and how course maintenance impacts playability.

    Salary Range

    $65,000 - $80,000 (depending on experience)
